Meiyintang Chenghua “Chicken Cup”

Meiyintang Chenghua Chicken Cup

The Meiyintang Chenghua “Chicken Cup” sold for a record $36.1 million (HK$281.2) in Hong Kong on April 8, 2014. It’s known as a “chicken cup” because it is painted with a rooster and hen tending to their chicks. All we can say is ‘Wow’ to the sale of this 500 year-old porcelain cup!

We are so into the  Breed Retreat by Frederik Roijé, an architectural designed hen house. The Breed Retreat is composed of stacked and fused segments. The height refers to the pecking order that is naturally present by chickens.

The higher the nest the more secure. To place in the pecking order to breeding segments are divided. The interior is in addition to all the comfort provided with interior lighting, powered by solar panels on the roof. In the winter chickens lay no eggs. The interior lighting simulates the days are longer so do the chickens lay an egg even in winter.

Per Roijé, “My ultimate wish is that public parks such as the Vondelpark in Amsterdam or Central Park in New York have a Breed Retreat for their own city chickens.”
